BIOGRAPHY
Aleksandr Pavlovich Aleksandrov (born 20 February 1943 in Moscow) is a retired Soviet cosmonaut and Colonel of the Soviet Air Force. He was selected as a cosmonaut in 1978 and flew two longโ€‘duration missions to the Salyut and Mir space stations: Soyuz Tโ€‘9 in 1983, during which he spent 180 days aboard Salyut 7, and Soyuz TMโ€‘3 in 1987, a 185โ€‘day mission to Mir. Aleksandrov performed two EVAs totaling 4 hours 48 minutes. Over his career he accumulated 309 days 18 hours 2 minutes of spaceflight time. He was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star and the Medal 'For Merit in Space Exploration'. After retiring from the cosmonaut corps in 1992, he worked in the Russian aerospace industry.
